Andrews Senior Care is proud to announce that our homes in both Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick have achieved Accreditation with Commendation through Accreditation Canada.
This designation makes Andrews the only privately-owned long-term care facilities on P.E.I. that are part of both the Provincial Government LTC Inspection Program and Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum Program. Accreditation Canada standards are considered the benchmark for health services in Canada. Accreditation with Commendation means Andrews not only met, but exceeded, the national standards outlined by Accreditation Canada.

“This is a significant achievement for our homes,” said Mizan Uddin, Andrews Group General Manager. “Our teams have worked hard over the past four years and achieving Accreditation is a testament to our dedication to continuous improvement in resident care and experience.”
Director of Nursing for Andrews Senior Care, Alana DesRoches, along with Cathy Fischer, Manager of Special Projects, led the process over the past four years. The two worked in close coordination with the Directors of Care and teams at all five homes in P.E.I. and the five ProTem Memory Care homes in Moncton, N.B, which specialize in dementia care using a unique small home format developed in Europe.
“It was a team effort,” said Alana. “You don’t achieve something like this in a silo. Our Directors of Care, nurses, home operations, dietary, caregivers and activity directors, work hard every day to ensure our residents have exceptional person-centered care and experiences. Accreditation gave us the opportunity to take what we were doing well and make it that much better. I’m extremely proud of our teams.”
The timing of Accreditation is especially relevant to Andrews Senior Care, which marks 40 years of caring for Islanders this year. Andrews is marking this milestone with a significant expansion in its provision of LTC services.
The organization is currently finalizing construction of a new state of the art 90 room LTC wing at Andrews of Charlottetown, the first home opened by the founders Doreen and Errol Andrews, in 1986. The redesigned home will include two interior courtyards for resident outdoor activities as well as a playground area for grandchildren of residents. The new rooms are expected to open late this year.
Andrews commenced its journey toward Accreditation four years ago, in 2022. The organization achieved the Accreditation Primer Designation in 2024. Since then, Andrews has worked toward the final step of the Accreditation process, the Accreditation Qmentum Survey. During this period, Andrews homes worked toward 300 individual standards, achieving a 96.5% overall score during the onsite survey in April which was overseen by surveyors from out of Province. In addition, Andrews scored 100% compliance on the Required Operational Practices (ROP) outlined by Accreditation Canada.
Accreditation Canada is an independent organization dedicated to improving outcomes through assessments against global standard, alongside the Health Standards Organization (HSO). For more information about Accreditation Canada go to www.accreditation.ca.
