Hear what a few of our team members have to say!

Emmah started working as a caregiver with us two years ago.

She’s passionate about senior care, something she credits to time spent visiting her grandmother when she was growing up.

“I really enjoy the connections you make with the residents,” she said. “They teach you a lot.”

When she’s not at work, Emmah enjoys knitting and crocheting with friends, a skill she learned from our residents.

Karen Melanson has been an Andrews of Parkhill team member for 11 years.

Prior to joining our team, she worked for a number of years as an office coordinator, managing everything from purchasing to day-to-day operations.

After spending some time taking care of a woman with dementia, she decided to make a career change and became a caregiver.

“This was my calling,” she said. “Of all the jobs I did, this is my favourite. It’s so rewarding when you do things for the residents, you make them smile and laugh. It’s really a great job.”

She transitioned from caregiver to dietary aide approximately three years ago. While the responsibilities differ from caregiving, the satisfaction she gets from her work is the same.

“One of the new residents that moved in, I was off work for a few days. When I came in, she said ’Karen, I haven’t seen you for quite a few days. I missed you,’” Karen said. “That makes you feel really good. It’s pretty rewarding.”

Annelize Malan’s goal is to make every day interesting for her residents.

Annelize has been the activity director at Andrews of Summerside since July, 2021.

She’s a dedicated and creative member of our team and is passionate about giving our residents unique experiences.

“The most rewarding part of the job is the thank you’s that you get at the end of the day,” she said. “Where a resident would come to you and say ‘this is the most fun that I’ve had in decades.’”

Annelize

Andrews Senior Care is special because of the exceptional medical care its residents receive. I am very proud to be a part of the team that not only puts the health of its residents first but provides a great social and family-like atmosphere where residents are able to thrive.

Robert has been a dedicated team member since joining Andrews of Charlottetown in July 2022.

He is a graduate of Holland College’s LPN program and, prior to working at Andrews, spent five years in a similar role at another senior care home in the capital city.

“It’s very fulfilling work,” he said. “I enjoy working with the residents.”

I have been working at Andrews for the past 14 years. I started working as a caregiver and moved up to a management position. There are many opportunities to grow not only within the company but as a person. Our work environment is very positive and team focused. It makes me want to come to work every day. I have experienced very beautiful moments here that will stay in my memory forever. Andrews of Parkhill is my home away from home.

Tony Buena has been an Andrews of Stratford team member for 14 years.

Prior to joining Andrews, Tony spent 14 years as a teacher in his home country of the Philippines.

When he first moved to P.E.I. he started working in housekeeping at Andrews. Not long after, he transitioned to dietary, a role he remains in today.

For him, the thing he values most about Andrews is the sense of community. Working in a kitchen involves a lot of moving parts and to make things run smoothly, everyone needs to be on the same page.

“We are a team,” he said. “Working as a team is very important.”

He added, interacting with the residents is rewarding.

“They’re really nice people,” he said. “It seems like they are my parents, my family. That’s what I feel.”

Tony

Andrews Senior Care is a good place to work because it’s a happy and postive atmosphere and the staff are like one big family. We all work together to help each other out. My favourite part of my day-to-day work is providing care for the residents. I like being there for their achievements, laughter and conversations. The satisfaction you get from helping residents with their everyday living makes it all worth it.

Renee

“I have been with Andrews of Parkhill for more than 15 years on the dietary team and I always put my heart and soul into whatever I have to do. I enjoy coming to work and socializing with my team and the residents. I love to see their faces every day when I come to work, it really makes your day just knowing their families don’t have to worry about them, that they are safe, happy and loved by all of us.

This is not a job for me, it is my extended family. I have a safe place to stay during the storms and the residents are very happy knowing there are people to keep them safe. I am proud to be part of this team, we laugh together, cry together and when things get tough we always pull through together to get things done.”
