What is Nursing Care?

Nursing care is the next level of care after community care. A nursing care facility must provide 24-7 nursing care and supervision. On Prince Edward Island, Islanders must be assessed as needing to live in a place with 24-hour access to nursing staff before becoming a resident of a nursing care home.

What level of care is right for my loved one?

Contact your local Home Care Office to arrange for a health assessment. Your doctor can also arrange for this assessment.

A member of the Provincial Home Care staff will come to your loved one’s home to discuss their personal situation and complete a health assessment.  Or if your loved one is already a community care facility resident, the nursing team at the facility will complete the assessment. The health assessment lists daily care requirements and helps determine what level if care is necessary.

Searching for Self

Leaving the home you’ve known is difficult. No matter what any place tells you, nothing will be able to replace the memories you’ve built. At Andrews, we are here to provide the help you need. If you need to move into a facility with more care options such as long-term care, then we have you covered. Our staff will be there to help to make sure you get the care you need.

Searching for Others

Here at Andrews, we know that moving a loved one to a nursing home can be a stressful experience. You might feel nervous about how your loved one will adjust, guilty about making the decision, or upset about seeing them leave their home. All of these emotions are perfectly natural, and we’re here to support you and your loved one every step of the way. While transitioning to a new phase of life can be overwhelming, it is well worth it to ensure the person you love and cherish is receiving the care and support they deserve.
