What is Nursing Care?

Nursing care is the next level of care after community care. A nursing care facility must provide 24-7 nursing care and supervision. On Prince Edward Island, Islanders must be assessed as needing to live in a place with 24-hour access to nursing staff before becoming a resident of a nursing care home.

What level of care is right for my loved one?

Contact your local Home Care Office to arrange for a health assessment. Your doctor can also arrange for this assessment.

A member of the Provincial Home Care staff will come to your loved one’s home to discuss their personal situation and complete a health assessment.  Or if your loved one is already a community care facility resident, the nursing team at the facility will complete the assessment. The health assessment lists daily care requirements and helps determine what level if care is necessary.
